Job description

We have a senior business systems analyst role available in the information technology department for an experienced and qualified person who enjoys working in an energetic and stimulating work environment. The senior business systems analyst will through a collaborative process, be responsible for facilitation requirements and solutions sessions in the development environment. The successful person will also be responsible for making sure that all parts of the development process work as a whole, from requirement elicitation to software deployment.

This role requires a person with strong business and technical skills. He/she will work closely with business stakeholders, developers, testers, and software architects to fulfil the project requirements.

Requirements

Key performance areas:
    Business system analysis planning and monitoring:
    • Identifies the appropriate stakeholders.
    • Determines the activities required to successfully complete the analysis (business and system).
    • Tracks and communicates the progress of work items throughout the SDLC.
    • Estimates the required analysis of work items.
    • Acts as a bridge between the business and the IT development teams.
    • Manages the projects that integrate across business areas.
    • Identifies system constraints in conjunction with developer.
    • Recommends improvements for the system by studying current practices and defining appropriate modifications.
    • Acts as a subject matter expert of “as-is” and “to-be” business process. 
    Requirements elicitation:
    • Ensures all the resources needed for analysis are organized and scheduled.
    • Meets with stakeholders to gather requirements.
    • Documents the business and functional requirements.
    • Validates that the stated requirements match the stakeholders’ expectations.
    Requirements management and communication:
    • Obtains consensus among key stakeholders regarding requirements scope.
    • Structures the requirements in the agreed format so that it is understandable by all stakeholders.
    • Communicates the requirements to all stakeholders and obtain stakeholder sign off within the estimate.
    Requirements analysis:
    • Ensures that requirements are prioritised.
    • Uses a combination of text, matrices, diagrams and formal models to conceptualise the requirements.
    • Defines Assumptions, Constraints and Risks.
    • Ensures that requirements specifications meet the necessary standard of quality.
    • Validates that all requirements support the current business architecture.
    Solution assessment and validation:
    • Ensures that the proposed solution meet the stakeholders’ requirements.
    • Assists the testing team to ensure the solution is validated against the business requirements.
    • Validates proposed enhancements and evaluates technology to support the implementation of proposed changes.
    • Assesses whether the organisation is ready to make effective use of the solution.
    Enterprise analysis:
    • Identifies new capabilities required to meet the business need.
    • Defines which new capabilities a project iteration will deliver.
    Medium term planning:
    • Maintains the product backlog of a designated operational area.
    • Plans the future delivery of work items on the product backlog with operational stakeholders.
    Completeness and quality of requirements:
    • Ensures the appropriate use of requirements documentation templates.
    • Identifies the impact of business requirements on other functional areas.
    Qualifications:
    • Three years' tertiary qualification in relevant technical/financial/analytical related field of study.
    • Diploma in business analysis from FTI or equivalent.
    Experience
    • Eight years’ experience in a similar role in a formal business systems analysis environment.
