Based in Cape Town, the successful candidate will direct and deliver on mandated logistics projects to support the project director of logistics and his team in the overall integrated delivery of the Absa Cape Epic event. This candidate is motivated to grow and develop in their role, is results driven and able to deliver on strict timelines whilst working closely across all divisions as well as with sponsors, suppliers, third parties and external stakeholders to drive integrated delivery across all areas of responsibility.
Whilst 'hands on' work at the event are required, this role also requires meticulous planning and documenting year-round and is therefore primarily desk bound.
The logistics manager should:
Be a South African citizen or be in possession of a valid South African work permit.
Have a proven experience of five to seven years in a similar environment, within the sport/events industry, at least three of which managing a project team (i.e. reporting staff), suppliers and service providers.
Possess a valid matric certificate and/or relevant tertiary qualification
Have a general knowledge of about the Absa Cape Epic or similar events.
Minimum of Code B driver’s license and own transport.
Occasional travel may be required both locally and internationally from time to time.
Work closely with the project director of logistics and other members of the logistics team to ensure seamless overall delivery of all logistic elements around the race.
Conceptualization, planning and execution of assigned logistics elements.
Planning and engaging with the internal departments to ensure delivery of their logistical requirements.
Planning and engaging with sponsors to deliver logistical services for their activations on event.
Management of suppliers, contractors and other stakeholders to ensure service delivery to Absa Cape Epic standards.
Ensure that all logistical aspects remain compliant with health and safety requirements as stipulated in the relevant legislation.
Work within allocated budgets, financial tracking, reconciliation of logistic projects.
Monitor deliverables per project plan and provide regular project status feedback to the team.
Document all systems and procedures to develop comprehensive ‘best practice’ manuals.

About ABSA CAPE EPIC Founded in 2004 by Kevin Vermaak and recently acquired by Wanda Sports Holdings, the Absa Cape Epic is the world’s premier mountain bike stage race. The route changes every year, taking professional mountain bikers and aspiring amateurs from around the world through roughly 700km of unspoilt scenery and 15,000m of accumulated climbing over some of the most magnificent mountain passes in South Africa's Western Cape province.
