Job description

Our client, a large corporate situated in the Johannesburg CBD area is recruiting a strategic assignment manager on a two to three-year contract to manage strategic technology initiatives for the CIO, enabling the clients’ transformation; overseeing business and process improvements and ensuring alignment with organisation’s strategic business goals.

Key responsibilities:

Project management
  • Support the delivery of the IT and business transformation
  • Facilitate the development of a strategic plan to deliver business change
  • Program management of the strategic IT initiatives including the identification and management of dependencies, risks, and issues
  • Ensure successful delivery of the strategic IT initiatives and business benefits
  • Develop and implement the change management practices which enable their business teams to transition and adapt to change effectively
  • Lead and coordinate the delivery of key business change and improvement initiatives which stabilise and improve their current and future Structure, Systems, Processes and Culture
  • Prioritise initiatives in line with business requirements
  • Identify and resolve problems that may affect completion of projects, escalate matters where necessary
  • Manage program deliverables and provide updates to relevant parties on progress made
  • Initiate and either coordinate or manage the component projects including the approval of business cases
  • Conduct project-related research and present analysis to CIO: conduct interviews, gather and analyse data, and develop presentations
Stakeholder management
  • Work with the relevant IT and business stakeholders to ensure the successful implementation of the strategic initiatives
  • Stakeholder management across the business
  • Define the next phase of the IT change program with the relevant stakeholders to deliver the strategic business plan
 Develop and drive a continuous improvement culture across their business functions
  • Facilitate and coordinate resources required for the strategic IT Programs
Executive communications
  • Create momentum through effective communication to all stakeholders thereby ensuring sustainability of change initiative/s and engendering a resilient/adaptable culture which will result in Edcon being a progressive industry leader
  • Development of the executive communication packs for the IT initiatives
  • Develop, communicate, and manage guidelines, plans, and practices relating to projects handled
  • Communicate with line manager regularly, recommend and action improvements
 People management
  • Encourage, implement, and reinforce the Group’s Values, Leadership principles and (High Performing Organisation) HPO strategies and initiatives
  • Manage own professional development through individual development plan and talent management processes


Requirements

 Requirements/qualifications:
  • Minimum of eight years of strategic projects management / management consulting / equivalent experience, more recently with leadership experience (preferably within retail / IT)
  • Strong management skills demonstrated through significant people-management experience, able to operate at a senior level – influencing, facilitating, challenging, negotiating
  • Some experience leading and executing large scale transformation projects preferred
  • Some experience developing and implementing IT strategies preferred
 Professional Qualification Requirements:
  • Undergraduate degree (e.g., BA, BS) or equivalent experience
  • MBA preferred
