Job description

Key Performance Areas (KPAs)

Manage relationship with shipping agency
  • Daily communication re issues/operational matters and manage and resolve all challenges 
  • Monitoring of B&D’s KPA’s (timely delivery of invoices) and ensure invoices are checked and paid timeously whilst monitoring deferment account levels
  • Build and maintain effective and lasting relationships
Act as internal liaison between buyers, planners, warehouse and finance departments
  • Monitor vessel movements
  • Manage daily communication re issues/changes/operational matters re incoming containers between all parties (merchandise/DC) and resolve all challenges timeously 
Support inbound stock management
  • Act as link between merchandise and DC in Ops manager’s absence (priority containers)
  • Continuously inform and update DC of revised ETA’s so that DC can plan accordingly
  • Keep DC apprised of free time agreements with shipping lines and liaise with buyers/planners re their incoming cargo
  • Keep all parties (DC and merchandise) informed of customs stopped containers
Act as source of industry knowledge
  • Keep abreast of shipping lines service changes/routines/mergers and vessel sharing agreements
  • Ensure rates quoted are market-related and negotiate lower rates and better free time agreements with Ops Manager and shipping lines
Benchmark of shipping agents
  •  Meet with other forwarders with Ops Manager to keep informed of what the competition is offering


Requirements


Qualifications and accreditations
  • Bachelor’s Degree in supply chain, business, statistics or economics and/or an equivalent tertiary qualification 
Experience and skills
  • Minimum of five years’ experience within a similar shipping role with a sound administrative background
  • Computer literate with Excel, MS Word and Outlook
  • Hands-on working experience of inputting and processing accurate data both numerical and text
